My first forum was a canadian ratlist. I had been to an exotic vet down the road, and on this ratlist I had asked some questions like "how much do you pay for ....?" This is when I discovered my oh so close and convenient first exotics vet clinic were gougers, and well known in rat circles as not knowing enough and charging 3-4 times as much as they should. Sigh. :/ I asked for another vet's name and this is how I found Dr .Munn for all my future rats care. :D

I answered my first ad (put up on that list) for 4 boys left behind when the son moved across the country for school. They were old boys, and living together i a huge homemade cage. I talked to the parents and they were thrilled I would take them.

Dominic got his first whiff of girls at 24 months of age and became extremely hormonally aggressive. He attacked his cagemates and he attacked me suddenly..my first biter ever was a chomp to the bone! I was sooo scared of that boy and screeched for help and advice. He was booked for a neuter on a Friday along with a gentler, younger and smaller boy who I was going to put in with my sweet girls. Sebastian did great during his sugery. Dominic ended up in trouble. An underlying respiratory issue flared up and I had to nurse him all weekend then rush him to the vet on Monday where he was hospitalized. To no avail, poor Dominic passed overnight. I regret I was too inexperienced to save this big black variberk boy and that I have no pictures of him.
