Dusa - March 2011 to October 3, 2013
Dusa came to me old and compromised in March 2013. She was a pair of girls that had basically 2 options. Someone takes in the 2 older girls or they are put to sleep before the owner leaves for California in 2 weeks.
Through a very convoluted pickup, where our Alex went and picked them up and a cage she was getting for herself, and then transported to Sarah's place (clmntne?...I NEVER get her nickname right!) where she handed her off to Jenny who brought them home to take care of until QT was lifted at my place.
Jenny texted me and then posted some shocking pics...One and Two were black hoodies, but Two had some absolutely horrific tumours and was scary thin with a poor coat. And the tumours grew.
Jenny emailed me the night before she brought them to me, and said "I REALLY hope she makes it so you can meet her". The meet was setup for that weekend. :(
Poor Two who became Dusa....she only had 2 tumours, but they were huge, a matched pair just inside her hind legs...as soon as I saw her I took pics and sent them to my vet asking if there was any way to remove them. The only other option would be euthanasia within the week. My vet booked her for April 5th with a lot of warnings of how she most likely wouldn't make it.
Her sister One/Isa was scared, fat and had one small tumour on her side, but she depended on her braver sister for everything.
Poor Dusa :/

She couldn't lift those super heavy monsters up but really wanted in the hammock with her sister the night before her surgery.

The surgery was a success!! She started gaining weight back immediately, and her weak hind legs grew stronger :D

A month and a half later and you'd never know :D

She was sooo happy!!

Then in May she had a vaginal polyp rear its ugly head, so she had to have surgery again, this time they tied off the polyp, and removed it...another success :D
Life went on for my 2 feisty old girls...Dusa started to accept other rats but Isa would chase them away. They both aged. Dusa developed a small tumour on her side and sadly hers grew quickly...but she was still strong, able and willing...then one morning I found her gone in the bottom of her cage...a bit of a surprise as there had been no slow down. She got an extra 7 months that she wouldn't have, made it to a very good age, and lived life on her terms. What more could you ask for?
