I had always had petstore rats growing up. At that time there were very few vets that would treat them or even euthanize them. Then I discovered the internet and the wealth of information on my beloved rats. :)
Last September I had only 4 rats...all girly rescues except one. Then I saw an appeal for my city on a Canadian Rat Rescue board. This man had been left with 4 2 year old boys when his daughter moved to another province and didn't know what to do with them. He called all the shelters and none of them would take them. He sent an email to the moderator of the board and she posted that fateful email. I ended up with all 4 boys (having had girls most of my life), and Farraday was one of them. He really didn't like people, but was never aggressive. He would walk to the back of the cage if I opened it. He was just indifferent to me, so I left him alone with his brothers and minimal handling which he preferred. I figured at his age (2 yrs 2 months) that he had a right to be a curmudgeon. :P
About 2 months ago the lightbulb went off in his head, I was Good and Not Scary. He started looking right at me with what I call smiley eyes. He would search me out and even let me stroke him and scratch (his fav) sometimes. Of course this slightly ungainly old man stole my heart (along with his cage mates) in the 6 months I had him.
I bet right now he's bouncing around eating as many veggie pasta rotini's as he could shove in his mouth. ;D
A rather undignified pic of him.

His last night with me.
