Jeremy – Oct 2010 to May 3, 2013
A member on Rat Shack posted that she had an oops litter on her hands, and that her husband (who didn’t like rats) was planning on dumping them outside in the cold if she didn’t find them homes. Of course she disappeared after demanding on updates, never to be heard from again. My wonderful Jenny went and picked them up and brought them home to me. On the trip she fell in love with the 2 smeeze boys and ended up taking them home after they were neutered LOL. The whole group was 2 skitty rexy moms, 2 black rexy baby girls, 1 standard coat black berk girl, 1 double rex girl, 2 smeeze boys (1 rex, 1 standard), a black standard berk boy and a black hooded boy as well. The last 2 were adopted by my brother and left within a week of arriving.

Jeremy was always a little worried about the big bad world

I went up to see them often, and they always seemed to remember me. :) They grew into big solid, then big fat boys…my mom decided food was love LOL, but the boys in this litter had a propensity towards big-ness LOL. Malcolm was a confident big happy boy, and loved to be played with…Jeremy on the other hand was shy and nervous and he preferred me since I was very quiet and gentle with him. Eventually he started truly trusting me, and soon after I would arrive at my mom’s/brother’s for a few days, he would be on or near me, not asking for pats but just wanting to be close on his own terms. Finally he became a sweet cuddlebug :D

Then his brother Malcolm developed PT over a weekend while I was up there, so Mal came home with me to see if we could stabilize him on bromocriptine. They were separated for a month, and poor Jeremy at first was very depressed, but then grew to love my mom for all the special attention she gave him. When Malcolm finally went back, they were reunited happily. Sadly about a month ago, a lump was found on Jeremy’s chest/neck and it grew fast…really fast. These rats might have a genetic issue with nasty malignant tumours as his sister developed a super fast growing one on her left foreleg and to save her life we had to remove the leg. She is smaller and older but still going strong JMy mother asked me to take Jeremy and Malcolm in to see if there was anything more to be done for Jeremy…but most likely he would just need to be put to sleep. I cleaned him up, itched his itchies and rubbed his scratchies, cleaned his ears and syringe fed him as he was unable to eat and drink properly from a bwle. I also emailed my vet right away, and asked about potential surgery. This family is tough, and seem to be able to live longer than the norm, but after 4 wonderful days and nights together it was decided that Jeremy’s tumour was truly inoperable so we let him go instead. Malcolm seems a bit confused but he’s adapting to life without his brother, I on the other hand, am having a bit more trouble :/
He joins his brother Mr. Fluffy, and his sister Linnet, leaving behind Remy, Sparrow and Malcolm.
I hope to see you again Jeremy. *heart*
