Morry - Oct. 2011 to April 25, 2013 :'(
This poor lad was born to a snake dad and mom. The dad was originally a saved feeder and I guess mom gave birth to Morry and his siblings. Dad’s name was Edible or Ed, and Morry was originally Morsel
The owner kept Morry and his dad together but had no understanding of care or proper rat ownership. I realized after I got Morry, that he had lived through hell and beyond. His eye turned white as very young baby and died. Most likely that was injury. I heard his dad got sick (respiratory) last August but even without treatment lingered 7 months until February before dying. Then Morry started wheezing. The owner did try to contact a rat rescue, but they were full, so the email came to me, and our saga began. I met up with the owner on a Sunday at a bus station at noon on April 7th. As soon as I saw the poor scared, rough coated fellow, I knew he was in bad shape. The woman thanked me and I rushed him home. His condition is best shown in pics...

Teeming with lice, just eating him alive, probably for a very long time. There was even lice on his feet and on the bare bits of skin of which he had many,

Black filthy tail, bony frail body, rough coat with each shaft completely covered with nits…too weak to sit upright for long, he would list over.

So with fluids on board, and antibiotics and a bit of steroid to open up those poor lungs and hopefully encourage more signs of life rather than just apathy…he finally ate a treat hours later. Here you can see the “old” boy who was really 18 months but acted ancient. :(

And thus began our saga, usually 1 step forward, 2 steps back. It was an ongoing fight and I (along with a lot of people) mourned at the downturns, and cheered at any sign of improvements, mentally or physically. He was a sweet boy who really just wanted comfort and love. *heart*

Goodbye sweetest boy, you deserved a Happy Ever After but your poor body had had too much damage done to it by humans in your short life. I hope to see you again, for a much happier time. ::(
