Pip was the 2nd last of my CCH ladies. I took in 4 girls from CCH after they closed down. Three of them were a family, mom Maisie, daughters Serena and nakie Pip. There was another nakie girl named Squeak but she died before we could arrange to pick her up
The litter had had babies with hydrocephalus and we were worried that these rats would need special care during their lives. Sadly the most affected girl (and sweetest) Serena died very young at 18 months, most likely from complications of hydro. I watched Pip like a hawk but other than a couple of minor URI's she had been healthy. A few days ago, she became clammy cold and I was unable to warm her up, even against my skin. That cold of a nakie that usually means they are going to be leaving you soon. There was no lumps, no respiratory, nothing I could treat. I gave her pain meds just in case, and watched her. She continued to be cold until Saturday, then started warming up. She was drinking and eating on her own again, and cuddling with new warm furry friends. Of course this was all just a Last Good Day and that evening she had a few seizures in my hands and passed to rejoin her sister. Pip was always very shy of humans for the most part, just like her mom and totally unlike her sister Serena. I respected that and let them run and have their out time and they never really searched me out for companionship, instead I gave them neutered boys whom they loved. On Pip's last day she gave me a present, she came and cuddled on me, and bruxxed and slept on me for hours....thank you Pip.
