The first I heard of Ria was an unexpected email from a man in Peterborough who said he had seen a rat in his mudroom, and since she was brown and white he assumed she was domestic. He got my email from someone else I had helped in the past. The man Peter was lovely, and stopped his family from trying to hurt the rat with a broom, and basically banned them from the mudroom so they wouldn't scare her away. He bought a havahart trap, a small cage to put her in once he caught her, to give to me. He was amazing for a non-rat person. :)
He sent me pics of this little lady. :)
He caught her then realized that there was actually TWO of them! The mom and her daughter looked a LOT alike. With a bit more trouble he caught them then drove them down that night to me. :) They were pretty feral but lovely younger girls :) I named the Mom Ria after a former agouti hoodie that only lived less than a week after she arrived, and the baby girl was Roo. Roo was very spooky and still is to this day. Ria became an absolute sweetie. Roo on left, Ria on right.
Sadly Ria developed PT later in life and though she responded well to steroids, it was only a temporary reprieve. She very peacefully passed away while cuddled on my chest. Farewell my little mudroom lass..I am so glad you came :)
