Sweetpea or Pea

Pea (originally Sweet Pea) Oct. 14/06 to Dec. 23/08

With a heavy heart I have to tell you that although Pea and her PT were responding beautifully to the dex therapy, tonight I came home to her cold and limp. I picked her up and she wasn’t breathing. I watched for a little while, hoping I was wrong. I started to cry, kissed her and told her I loved her, and she started breathing for me again. She stayed with me until 8:25 pm tonight when her body failed her and she just stopped.

My first thought of Pea was her adoption pic when she was in a rescue in a far away province this summer, and we were desperately trying to rehome as many of the 120 rats as we could. I saw the pics and with a sinking heart realized she might not get adopted, she was older, obese and lumpy. :(

I thought about her for awhile and decided that I would adopt her and her much younger, very pretty although very heavy cagemate. And they came to me through the kindness of many on a long journey on June 21, 2008, a date I will not soon forget.
Everyone loved Calla, she really is a lovely little lady, but Pea with her wariness, her newly-discovered cage aggression, and her lumpy body and saddlebags is the one who stole my heart.

Pea thought the hoodie gals were great pillows….

Two weeks home and usually the eyes are just starting to soften…but this is when she would bite your hand. Those lovely eyes tried very hard to lure unsuspecting hands into range.

She was a funny thing, if her head was just outside the door she was sweet and friendly, but once her head was back inside, the biting could commence. LOLOL

And she finally let me into her heart as well

I was a very lucky person to have met and loved Pea. She truly was a special girl and my only regret was 5 months was just too short a time to have known her.
