Triesse - March 2012 to July 6, 2014
The Montreal "Strong" Ladies were quite an adventure to get and to keep. They were considered unadoptable in Montreal, and 2 had terrible tumours, and 3 of the 4 were a colour that is not fashionable in Montreal and rarely gets picked. They were older as well. Victoria met up with Jenny and I in Kingston so we could bring these ladies home and get Adira and Balera in for tumour removals ASAP as time was definitely ticking for these girls. The remaining girls were healthy and they were sweet friendly Triesse and very nervous shy worried Valene. These 2 hung out together alll the time, even though all the sisters loved each other.

the 3 smeeze girls

The little family once they arrived. Triesse is at the front on the left.

The girls came to me with untrusting eyes, and a "do not touch" look. They would slink away when touched. Triesse was the friendliest of them all so sadly this meant she became the healthy companion who went on the vet trips. The first trip was Balera and Adira. The plan was Adira would be assessed for her extensive tumour removal, and if Dr. Munn felt it was inadvisable they would remove Balera's instead. Then it was Balera and Triesse 2 days later for B's surgery, then on Friday, when Balera opened herself up all over again. Then she went home with Jenny with Adira then off to her vet the following day about a week later as Adira's leg incision opened up. Gah! I apologized to little Triesse each time LOL
She forgave me for puffs LOL

Happy little Triesse

Then early in May things went very sideways for my sweet little girl.
She seemed a bit slower, which I contributed to age at first but it quickly became less subtle with her falling over and freezing in odd positions and she was taken to Dr Munn and diagnosed with PT along with her old friend Buddy. They were both given dex injections, and started on bromocriptine. Buddy bounced back wonderfully but Triesse only improved so much. She still had to eat soft lab block mush, she was still rather floppy in her movements sometimes, and had a goofy look on her face most times. BUT she was able to run in her wheel again...wheee!!
Before

2 days into the bromocriptine

and then she developed malocclusion in June...sigh.

I took her to Dr Munn knowing he only uses anesthetic for tooth trims and that would set her off into a deepening spiral, so he trimmed her when she was wide awake and she did well
Back on the wheel she went.
We had a few minor regressions but yesterday when I saw her in the morning, I knew this was It. I gave her sub-q fluids and dex just in case there was one more reprieve left in her and settled in to wait. Her little family said goodbye to her as she lay on the bed. Adira powergroomed her, Balera cuddled near her a moment, then those 2 left to go exploring. Valene lay down beside her, rested her head on her back and stayed close for a long time before she left her to go exploring and I put her back in with her other sisters. Triesse finally left me at 2 am...she just stopped breathing while I had her lying on my stomach.

Goodbye sweetheart.
