Truffle – January 2009 to June 17, 2011
Truffle only came to me late last September, and she was one feisty girl. She bit through the bars and sometimes in the cage. At first she had no real use for me, and absolutely NO use for other rats (we had tried intro’s with so many singles and groups, but Truffle spurned them all with her teeth (and often a little blood). She learned that I was the one who let her out of her cage (she had lived in one of those small ALT purple bottom hamster cages her entire life) and I learned this girl was a running fool! She learned to love me, because I let her do what she loved best, I let her be what she wanted or needed to be. Not a real cuddler, but am amazing strong character, with quirks, and a sweetness deep inside her. I loved this girl sooo much, and hated watching her age, and those tumours start up on her. Not fair for such a physical athletic girl…but her sidecar never ever stopped her. Even a few days ago, she was jumping up onto the 2’ barricade of coroplast!
I wanted to remove the tumours off of Truffle, but emergencies always came first before electives, and then the younger rats needed their lives improved. Finally I was able happily to book Truffle for her surgery. She was a very very healthy 29 month young girl…no issues whatsoever except her large sidecar…you would never guess she was 2 much less 2.5 years old!
Unfortunately Truffles surgery went really well until the last minute or so when she just stopped breathing. I am now dealing with such feelings of guilt (I know I don’t deserve them but the emotions are all over the place) and of course the anguish of losing such a special rat out of my life.
Run crazy my love.

Harrassing any rat she could

Darn sidecar :(

Nothing can stop her now!
