Yogurt came from a forum member who joined because she had bought a live feeder rat for her snake to eat, but due to financial difficulties, sold the snake before it ate the rat and decided she “liked’ the rat and kept him. Then we found out that the rat was terribly sick and had a head tilt and that “liking” the rat had nothing to do with touching it. :( She was convinced he was a terrible biter. We tried to get her to rehome this poor rat before it got too sick and died but she got defensive and refused to talk to or meet up with anyone related to the forum.
Someone sent her antibiotics and luckily Yogurt survived the severe inner ear infection. I had put a lot of sweat and tears into this situation, but had given up on getting poor Yogurt out of there, especially when any suggestions were responded to with “I should just smash his head against the wall and then we never have to talk about him again!”
Two months later I get an email from the woman. She’s moving to Alberta (illegal to have rats there) and wanted to know if I still wanted the biter boy Yogurt. Of course I said YES!!! Maple went and got him for me, and brought Yogurt home. This is when we discovered that Yogurt the boy was really a girl with a drastic head tilt, mucky eyes and was terrified of people and being touched. There was months where Yogie would run up to me, nip me and then run away. Touching her sent her scurrying and backing up fast. Then all of a sudden she was coming to see me, and check me out. Then she wanted to cuddle on the back of my neck when I lay on the couch watching TV :D
Yogurt got introduced to the Lilith group very very easily, and was a happy girl until 3 days ago, when a terrible tumour popped up that was all the way up into her nasal cavity. I let her go with her friend Zoey, she was only 18 months old.
