Arista – February 2011 to July 5, 2013
Yet another one of my Newmarket rescues has left me. Such a sad story, made even sadder by these rats always being nervous of humans all their life. They were being bred as snake food, and kept in a small cage on a table above the snake they were destined to be fed to, and had already heard many die that way. One day the girl decided to get rid of them, tossed her 2 PET rats in the cage and went round to the petstores to give them away...luckily no one would take them, so she put up an ad, Free Snakefood. Moon was wonderful and drove up to get them and bring them to me. They were sooo scared as unsocialized little babies and for the most part preferred their interaction with humans as hands off unless they were being offered food LOL
Ready to bolt
Curious but ready to bolt LOL
Group courage :P
Neutered Keiran was very good for this shy little gal
Growing up...ready to bolt
An adult now, not quite as spooky but close
An old lady, one who had been sick for months, regrew tumours that were removed and developed even more, but she was still bright and happy and almost handleable LOL Her lungs finally went kaput, and she became a bed rat with her sister Adella. I was still not allowed to cuddle her and I woke up early to take her in to my vet and she was already gone to rejoin her passed family members and beloved cagemates.
