Calla November 2007 to Feb. 17, 2009 :(
She was a picture, a cagemate of a girl I wanted to adopt from The Rat Train. Once I decided that Sweetpea and her black and white companion were coming to me, I tried to forget them. I didn’t need to worry about them anymore, but there were so many others who needed good homes, so I concentrated on them.
I finally saw the pretty black and white girl, and named her Calla, after the Calla Lily. All the Moncton rescues I took in were named after flowers but Calla was, albeit overweight, as lovely as a lily.
Calla and Pea were inseperable, and Calla was a nice rat but more interested in running than me for a long time. I was glad for her, knowing her former existence didn’t include any time out of the cage, so I let them have it as much as I could.
Calla lost weight and became a lithe active happy girl who liked me just fine, but still had better things to do… :giggle:
Then our Sweetpea contracted PT and passed within 5 days. I was sure that Calla would pine and grieve terribly, but this pretty girl showed what a brave, strong girl she truly was. Then sadly a week later, she started to show almost identical symptoms and progression with PT as her beloved Pea. I was devastated. But Calla the strong and brave responded to the steroid therapy unlike our Pea and rallied beautifully. She became my longest surviving PT girl, with the least dips in her condition. We had a couple of bad moments then she dug back in and came back. Until this weekend, and then she went from running and loving me (finally) to stopping and finally passing beside me at 12:55 am. My lovely girl who never gave up, she climbed and ran and explored until the day before she left us. She is with her beloved Pea now…where she belongs. I am glad I could be part of her journey.
Look at how much weight she’s lost!!!!
Then PT strikes
After responding beautifully to the steroid therapy
She climbed to the end…
