Dashi - November 2011 (?) to October 29, 2012 :'(
Poor little Dashi didn't get her Fairy Tail Ending like her brother/mate and her daughter did. This girl deserved it sooo much as well. Instead she became the product of bad breeding, and died at 11 months old, having barely had a real life. Her former life was as a cute possession but used as a breeding machine. Her cage was a tank with carefresh, a bowl of water, and some seed mix. No toys, no climbing, nothing for this incredible little bright mouse to keep her entertained. When I met her she was so sick from untreated respiratory, that she was gasping, cold and clicking. Even though she was so terribly ill, as soon as I got her home, into a wire cage, with hammcoks, and toys and THINGS she brightened up. We fought the respiratory that I was sure was going to take her, we got past that only to discover she was growing something in her belly. The timing was right for yet another litter but it sadly turned out to be a tumour. Dashi was a very very special girl, so rat-like in her behaviours it was almost shocking (her daughter Maggie is EXACTLY the same). She adored to be held and patted and would toddle around on my bed...just exploring, but if I came near she would make a bee line for me. I shall miss this tiny tiny creature with the giant gentle soul. Dashi died quietly in my hands last night, and I comforted her until the end.
Just home
Someone's feeling better
Unlike every mouse I have ever known, she loved activity and would approach loud noises, she would watch me waiting for her time to come out and explore then cuddle
What are you doing out there?
Lying in my lap getting stroked was one of her favourite things, and she stop and pancake and close her eyes.
Or she would cuddle under my hand (a tent over her) and sleep.
Grooming of course was a priority, with all that pretty fur to arrange
Poor little Dashi's belly grew
My lovely girl, showing off her incredible rat-like cheek tip. Miss her already.
