Gruyere, Hera and Reese

Gruyere (24 mo), Hera (21 mo) and Reese (27 mo) on Dec 17, 2010

As everyone knows I do my memorials pretty much either right after a munchkin has passed at home, or I get back from the vet that night. Last night I was too tired and too numb to even think of going through this cathartic experience so I left it and ended up passing out very early.

Well there must’ve been a reason that I did this, and there was. I woke up at the unhappy house of 3ish AM and went to turn off lights and check everyone, and found Reese gone, my lovely old girl and cagemate to the 2 girls I had put to sleep today. She was one I was hoping to start on a new medication regime tomorrow. Sigh. She was fine at 7 pm when I put Tepeu back in their cage after her visit to the vet.

So it’s a triple memorial now, and it will be a long one. The first girl is Gruyere. She was a London, Ontario Cheese as I called them. A group of 4 baby girls from a terrible situation. They grew up with varying temperaments, sadly Gruyere was a very spooky girl all her life until just recently. With her on-going respiratory issues she discovered comfort with me, and would lie on my pillow near me, just don’t touch if you please, or she would wander off. She loved Reese, and the 2 were often together. She developed pulmonary abscesses or there was a tumour developing under her ribcage pressing on her lungs.

After the Cheeses were the smeezey girls. Hera and Honi. Hera was a fearful girl to the very end, she hated being picked up, and would squeak everytime. I was sad that she was still so frightened of me but very happy she loooved her ratfriends and that would just have to do.

Aging before her time, poor Hera was only 21 months.

But first it was Reese from HVRR…silly, happy, tiny Reese of the big eyes. She and Jaffa become one of the first honorary Sugah’s. Reese had some funny habits of licking then nipping…especially noses. I considered those her “love bites” LOL She was just a happy, active girl all her life, until about a month ago, when I discovered that she loved to sleep with me and she became an overnighter along with Gruyere. Reese was very particular on where she slept. If I was sleeping on my side, she would jump up and lay across my hip and more recently she would drape herself over my neck. I would shift to my back and she would sleep on my chest . She was very patient with my shifting all the time and would just change with me LOL. Always accommodating was my Reese. Last night I had to put an arm down so she had a bit of a stepping stone to my neck, but then she slept there happily. I shall miss my neck warmer most of all, but she made it to 27 months so I shall not grieve too much.

She stuck her head through the bars ALL her life…I stopped having little heart attacks eventually.

My old lady trying to convince me she was NOT eating my cushion fringe even though there was evidence in her mouth.
