Keely

Keely – January 2008 to January 22, 2010

Keely was brought home with her sister Bridgit and her mom Maline. They were part of a group of 2 litters a wonderful woman on Rat Shack (Good Karma) took in to raise and adopt out. It was only temporary and anyone not adopted would go back to the original owner *shudder*. Of course the dumbo’s and the smeezes all adopted out quickly, but Maline (black self young mom) and her 2 beige daughters were leftover. I said they could come here. They did and quickly joined the CSB group (Carina Snake Biter’s colony). Maline was nervous but her babies had a great time terrorizing the young but older rats LOLOL.

Keely and Bridgit were sadly very nervous about handling, unlike their mom, so it was more run-by pattings, not much holding, and they were comfortable with that for most of their lives. Then her sister got very and strangely ill. Her coat changed from a soft standard coat to a funny plush feeling, and she started to lose serious weight and seemed to have respiratory issues. Medications for URI, and even diagnostic dosing for CHF were all tried. At the end she was hospitalized with my vet but Bridgit was in rough shape so we had to euthanize her. She was only 20 months old, and we assumed she had internal masses going on from her bloodwork that came back. So I watched little Keely like a hawk! About 2 months ago she started to lose weight but still seemed quite well, then last week she went downhill fast! She had popped about 4 mammary tumors all at once, but they weren’t big enough to bother her, but I think it signified more internal masses. The last week, I got to cuddle my little lass, and she loved it. It was our last time to bond and we did. She was so lovely and sweet. Last night she was eating, drinking on her own, and seemed to be rallying a bit, and then she passed at 1:30 am in my hands. It was quiet and over in about 10 seconds and I stroked her and told her how much I loved her as she slipped away.

Goodbye Keely, go find your sister, and Wilbur…she loved old gentle Wilbur. I shall miss her sleeping over my hip as I watched TV, or cuddled under my hands on my chest. :sad3:
