Mattie

Mattie ?? to 12/25/07

At 4:53 pm on Christmas Day our lovely Mattie left us peacefully. I went up to check on her and when I pulled her out of her cage she bruxxed for a few seconds then went on to open mouth gasping. I held her and kissed her and told her to go with love. She is the first rat of mine that I was actually with during her passing. It was sad, but peaceful and very quiet as well. I believe she waited for me, and then felt like she could leave. Such a sweet considerate girl. I hope she has met up with her old cagemate and is telling her all about her too short stay in my home. :(

Mattie came from Bruxxy who adopted 2 older ladies, but 1 was put to sleep by an unfortunate vet. The other (Mattie) was given a dose of 10 times the amount of injectable ivermectin that was required and it ended up poisoning her and causing her to have mini-strokes then 2 big ones.

Her first stroke left her immobile but with steroid therapy she came back to almost full function, she joined another old lady of mine who had PT, and they wobbled around happily together, then she had another stroke that caused a serious regression.

She was so tiny, bright-eyed and sweet, I wish I had known her for a lot more time.
