Rafiki - Jan 15/05 to Jan. 22/07 :(
Rafiki was my original biter girl that I adopted from a local shelter with her sister. The biting passed very very quickly with love and care and then she just became my Lovey Girl.
She was a rat that eventually appreciated the 2nd chance at life. She used to lie on me and stare into my eyes for no reason at all. She also loved her wheel but after she learned to trust me, the wheel came second in her affections. She would run to me if I was anywhere nearby and would crawl into my lap for loving as soon as I sat down. Unlike most of my girl rats who would play Swarm and Run, she stayed with me as long as I was there.
She had lived with only her sister for 1 ½ years and then I introduced them to my Horde. Rafiki was in heaven in the ratpile!!! She was the bottom of the totem pole but she didn’t care in the least. LOL…and she had TWO wheels now.
Her sister Renata passed on Nov. 4th and soon after that Rafiki started the breathing that didn’t respond to treatment and the resulting weight loss. I let her stay with the Horde for as long as possible before moving her and Sebastian in together. Unfortunately they were only together for a week but they bonded soo strongly you would think it was months. On her bad days he would cuddle up to her, and lick and groom her. On his bad days she would return the favour…In her last weeks she would see her wheel and drag herself onto it and take a couple of steps and then lie down right on her wheel to recover for another attempt. In her last days she wouldn’t even try that and I knew she was tired now. I said goodbye to her so many times over the last couple of weeks, but being a stubborn old girl she stuck around for Sebastian.
