Soka

Soka - November 2012 to August 9, 2013 :(

Soka was supposed to be 2 years old, a little girl whose owner was moving back in with her dad, and couldn't bring her. She was being offered with her runabout ball...blech. I was at the tail end of my quarantine so I couldn't actually interact with any outside rats yet so Alex and Jenny took on this task for me (and for them).

Jenny and Alex did this coordinated transport dance to pick up Soka and the 2 old lumpy ladies (Isa and Dusa)...Jenny was going to Brampton first to pick up rat supplies for herself, Sarah's (clmntne) CN and supplies for myself. She was going to go to Sarah's help setup the CN and wait for Alex there. Alex was picking up a CN (and 2 old ladies as well) from their elderly owner in Mississauga then was supposed to be back at Ashley's bf's to pick up Soka at 2 pm. Unfortunately Ashley's bf didn't bother to show up until 3:40 pm so everything got a LOT delayed, but Alex being the rescuer she is, stuck it out for a needy girlrat and the deed was finally accomplished.

Soka turned out to be a very young, very nervous little pearl merle. :P

Jenny fostered her for a long time but when she finally arrived I got her to meet my Happy Group on the bed and she really came out of her shell :D She loooved other rats...humans? Meh, don't touch her and she was fine with us :P

Soka loved our little foster girl Bunny...Bunny was soo brave and Soka would follow along behind all the time

I added in a formerly younger hormonal male called Tych into the mix, and then Soka really blossomed...into a bit of a bully. My Happy Cage became a little more tense, so I finally pulled out Tych and Soka and they got along great together. I was doing my morning walk around, while I was medicating, and saw Soka on the bottom of the cage...she often sat there at the base of the ramp, gnawing on lab blocks that Tych had stashed in the house. But this time she was too still. She was lying on her chest, with her forelegs stiffly pushed forward and her little paws almost clasping...she was gone. I think it was a stroke, and it was fast which is a blessing, but my poor lady who I never got to know was gone. She was perfectly fine the night before, bouncing and tussling with Tych...there was likely something wrong inside of her that caused this, something I couldn't see beyond the shiny coat and big bright eyes. Farewell Spooky Soka, I hope you are with Milton now, he'll take care of you. external image beatingheart.gif~original
