Soma

Soma - 03/29/05 to 11/14/06 :'(

First I adopted sweet Luna (my 2nd shelter rat ever) and since my cage wasn’t big enough for her and her 2 sisters I left them behind to be together until they got adopted. After I got poor sickly Luna home and found out what a lovely character she was, I realized that her sisters were still languishing at the THS. So 3 months after adopting Luna I went and got Soma and Selene and reunited them with their sister. Luna only lived with us for another 4 months but she seemed very happy in that time. Selene was an independent sort and Soma was terrified of being touched. She would scream if even another rat bumped into her. I started picking her up, lifting her 2 inches off the bed, kissing her back and putting her back down. It took some time but she eventually became the rat who literally ran to me for cuddles and stroking for 1/2 an hour at a time. Who needs a dog or cat to stroke when you have a nice big warm girl. When she was 1 year old she developed a resistant respiratory infection and it got so bad I had to learn how to do sub-q injections at home. This sweet rat was my uncomplaining guinea pig while I learned. She stayed still and let me inject her every night, only demanding her yogies afterwards and forgiving me instantly. .
She had the sweetest lip smacking thing (ask Jorats, she saw it) that was a version of bruxing for her. I was thinking the other day that I never managed to video tape it and I guess I never will.
I had her pts today because she had what we believe were tumours in her bowel and abdomen, and she was impacted and uncomfortable. The real pain would start soon so I let her go very peacefully today. I’m a bit messed up with Soma going so soon after Renata and both of them too young. I have lost 2 of my lovely PEW girls that I adopted from the THS.
Soma, you will be missed more than I can even think of right now.
