Terra

Terra May 16/06-12/1/08

Terra was one of 4 little 7 week old girls I took in a couple of years ago, along with their mom Aura (who just recently passed). They were to be euthanize at a high-kill shelter, without being put up for adoption. I took in the little mites and their nippy mom and there were NO regrets at all.

Terra was the bigger more bossy of the 2 agouti babies, and did her own thing for the most part…very much a sweet girl, who loved to handwrestle and play and run and climb…with very little time for cuddling. That would involve STOPPING.

She was a funny silly baby

Her surviving sister Zuri, who is soo scary that Terra hides LOL

They grew up a bit, got spayed and I introduced them to Dilbert and his Girls to create the Original Horde

Terra loved her new extended family and Rat Piles…she’s the one with her paws clasped and her feet in the air

She adored her new FN…I still want to thank everyone who made it possible ((hugs))

Terra was never sick for almost her entire life. At the end she scared me last week by bloating up and I was sure she had massive internal tumours…but after some metacam and baytril she deflated.

I asked my vet about it on Saturday when I was in with Angel getting her teeth trimmed. If rats get gas very often (answer No, not without an underlying cause). So of course on Saturday night she “blew up” again. She slept by my side on Saturday night, and Sunday I was always near her, with little breaks to clean a couple of cages or let some rats loose to run. I suffer from IBS and tried to do what I thought would make me more comfortable. I doped her up on metacam, and gave her flat fingered belly massages (very gentle), which moved some gas around, syringe fed her Ensure (which she eagerly drank), gently soaked her belly in a warm sitz bath, which helped the most I think. And spent my entire day with her on or near me…
This morning, after a long semi-sweet night together, I went to my vet’s before work and she was quietly pts. My vet said that she had tumours inside her intestines…my poor baby! She has now rejoined her mom Aura, her sisters Lucine and Prima, and all the other members of the Horde who have passed.
