Zeus

Zeus – March 2010 to March 22, 2012

Zeus and his 8 baby boys were advertised for free for ages. The females all found homes but the boys were to be euthanized on Thursday so I picked them up Wednesday night and they were handed to me in a shallow but longish open gift bag. As soon as I met Zeus, I knew he was special. He was so soft and sweet, and gentle.

Just arrived and very calm on the right J His little high white son Chaos that you see sadly had to be pts for late onset MC, but the rest of the boys had no issues with it.

I called him Daddy Zeus, as my theme for this family was greek gods.

Zeus was such a kind boy, that he tried to take care of rats that were unsure or just plain scared. He taught my screaming spooky smeezies that not everything is terrifying, that there is fun to be had, and how to relax.

Then I saw Zeus was unwell, losing weight and feeling cool. I pulled him out and matched him up with a new gentle young boy, of similar small stature and the same sweet nature…this was Thomas.

Zeus and Thomas became the best of friends, never to part again. Zeus also improved and was a very happy boy :) These two would wrestle and box but it was all very gentle and playful…they were sooo fun to watch and be around.

Then Zeus became very very ill, and I rushed him to my vet. He was hospitalized for over a week, with special feedings, medications, fluids, blood work, etc done. He was diagnosed with meningitis, so every day it was “Did he make it through the night?”…

We were all so amazed he improved enough to come home, and boy was he happy to be home!!

Even when I gave him fluids twice a day, he was so brave about it

But then at 2 years of age, Zeus developed a URI, which responded well to antibiotics but he then developed a head tilt while ON the antibiotics. We tried a few things for him but this morning when he worsened suddenly I took him in and let him go.

Thomas has 2 young friends that I introduced not long ago, so he has friends but he and I are going to miss our Zeus-man very very much.
