Beni

Beni and Kara – August 1, 2006 to June 18, 2008

My beautiful little Wildlings are 2 less in number. :( A week after losing Nissa their sister I decided to have sweet Beni, my CHF boy and his sister Kara (necrotic tumour on her hip) helped out of this life.

I knew about my Wildlings before they were born in Ottawa. They went through quite a journey to make it to me. Beni arrived at 5 weeks old with his brother Ortiz and their domestic mom Rennie and her daughter Teya. Kara came back into my life over a year later with her 3 sisters.
These rats are totally different than any domestic rats you will know. It took months and months before I could touch them and they would prefer if I didn’t. The boys settled down a little more than their tiny timid sister after they were neutered and the family was reunited.
Then a year later the extended family (less 3 boys who lived with a wonderful woman) was reunited. Kara and Nissa were my biters and Protectors of the Colony. Those girls could slice through leather gloves with gardening gloves inside, like they were butter…hehehe

My sweet little man would lick me when I had my hand anywhere nearby, but when he stopped doing so I realized it was Time.
Only in the last couple of weeks has Kara stopped trying to eat me and has let me stroke her in the cage. She would lay down full length so I could stroke her. Beni had been on heart meds for over 3 months but was regressing, and when Kara developed a very aggressive and nasty tumour I decided to let them leave me together. I will miss my bootiful ‘goutis!

They are now Free and Loose and running wherever they want. I will miss my challenging little ratfriends.
