Ceres - 05/05 to 12/27/06
Yesterday when Ceres and her sister were out to play, they were bouncing around and having fun, all bright-eyed and Ceres was having a great time harrassing all the caged rats. This morning I woke up to breathing sounds and they weren't coming from Sebastian's cage. Oh oh! Turned out to be Ceres...the breathing seemed to be secondary, there was something else going on on top of that. She was limp, uncoordinated and really sick. I am not sure if it was a stroke, PT, or what but I called my vet and found out she wasn't in since she was battling the flu. I called them, they called her and I got permission to give her a shot of dex to help if it was stroke or inner ear infection, then I made the trek to the vets to pick up meds. I found her just gone as I got back in the door. She passed quietly and I had just missed her.
Ceres and her sister were adopted from a high-kill shelter 14 months ago. They were about 5 months old. They didn't have any interest in me whatsoever...no liking just an apathy that lasted for 7 months. They had only one real interest in life and that was to try and destroy any other rats! They were fast and almost deadly when they had attempted intro's...they leaped in quick, slashed and went out again...earning them the nickname The Wolves. After that bloody mess, I figured they liked each other and I would never attempt intro's and injury to any others. They were difficult rats since they ate toes if I wasn't careful, and really didn't give a hoot about me. Well suddenly 7 months later they both started to turn around quite quickly. That little gleam in their eye when they came to visit and pee on me. Last night was the first time that Ceres actually licked me...
They both have independent streaks a mile wide, but they ended up loveable when they weren't on a search and destroy mission...
Ceres, I will take care of Hestia for you, until you meet again. She is alone now and will need a lot of love to get through this.
Ceres this morning
Just home
